What You'll Learn

Tracking student progression towards educational goals is not always easy given existing systems or staffing. However, Alvin Community College used its resources to support its students and programs by implementing a system to track student progress through their educational journey as a part of Guided Pathways Pillar Three, “keeping students on the path.” This process tracks student progression toward their educational goals, while also providing additional information about possible and near completers. Within one term, it has identified: over 100 possible completers, over 400 near completers, and more than 200 off-path students. This session will discuss tracking student progression and guided pathways, and provide a look into strategies to identify and track student progression, including possible and near completers and any off-path progression.

The learning outcomes that participants will gain from the session are:

  • Understand the challenges associated with tracking student progression in higher education and recognize the limitations of existing systems and staffing.
  • Explore the benefits of using data to support student pathways and increase program completion rates.
  • Gain insights into strategies like identifying alternate degree options and off-path courses and learn how these interventions can effectively assist students in completing their educational programs.

“We're watching heavily that off-goal piece, so that we can keep people on their goal. Because, if we can keep people taking the classes that they need in the program that they're enrolled in, they're going to get done faster.
