Nudge: Improving Student Success and Retention

As part of Grayson College’s Quality Enhancement Plan (QEP), the planning team worked with a data analytics platform already used by the college to create customized student success dashboards. The team identified key alerts relevant to each week in the term (LMS login activity, attendance, and grades). By sending weekly nudges, students are notified early and directed to resources before problems arise. GC has expanded and tailored these dashboards to other departments interested in utilizing data to promote the College’s mission of student success.

Odessa College has revolutionized course outcomes, boasting an impressive average course completion rate of 97% for all students each term. By creating a culture of data and accountability, Odessa faculty have infused a tireless commitment to improvement and equity that encompasses all programs of the institution. Attend this session to learn how we have consistently achieved high course completion rates and closed course-level equity gaps while creating a sense of belonging for students. You will leave with an evidence-based approach, informed through student success analytics and the intentional efforts of faculty, that will transform how to engage with students inside and outside the classroom.

Reimagining Success for a Dual Credit Program

Brazosport College (BC) was determined to create better access to college. Their solution: being more intentional with their dual credit program. More than 1 million students participate each year in dual credit programs nationwide, and community colleges serve 70% of those. However, there were significant challenges to overcome: the absence of internal resources, actionable data, established processes, and strategic partners. This session explores the transformation of BC’s dual credit program and their innovative ways of using data to boost enrollment, progression, and completion. Their results: dual credit enrollment and the number of completed credits both increased by 6%.

Student Progression Tracking to Support Student Pathways and Increase Completion

Tracking student progression towards educational goals is not always easy given existing systems or staffing. However, Alvin Community College used its resources to support its students and programs by implementing a system to track student progress through their educational journey as a part of Guided Pathways Pillar Three, “keeping students on the path.” This process tracks student progression toward their educational goals, while also providing additional information about possible and near completers. Within one term, it has identified: over 200 possible completers, over 400 near completers, and more than 200 off-path students. This session will discuss tracking student progression and guided pathways, and provide a look into strategies to identify and track student progression, including possible and near completers and any off-path progression.
