Zogotech Signs Agreement with North Texas Central Texas College to Implement Estudias Enterprise™ Data Warehousing Solution

Supports growing need for community colleges to have better, more secure tracking of student data

March 27, 2009 (Dallas, TX)—ZogoTech™, the leading provider of integrated student engagement and business intelligence software for higher education, announced today that it has been selected by North Central Texas College to implement its Estudias Enterprise™ software solution.

This decision comes at an important time when community college enrollment is on the rise yet students are unprepared with resources needed for a successful experience. The Estudias Enterprise software will allow NCTC to manage and access accurate, precise data in order to make strategic decisions about enrollment, programming and business needs.

NCTC President Dr. Eddie Hadlock states, “To respond effectively to student needs and to maximize student learning, we not only must have sound, reliable data but also the ability to discern what that data is actually telling us. That’s why a system that enhances our ability to gather, analyze and mine data in a meaningful way is so crucially important to us – from a fiscal as well as instructional perspective.”

Collecting accurate data is especially challenging in the community college environment. Many students come and go sporadically rather than take courses continuously, making it difficult to track their progress. In addition, various systems that store data are not compatible with one another or easy to access. The President’s Council of NCTC turned to ZogoTech so that its entire leadership team could get more precise and quantitative information.

How Estudias Works

ZogoTech will work with NCTC to seamlessly integrate Estudias’ three components with the campus’ current enterprise resource planning system called POISE. Through a unique partnership with ESP-Tulsa, a customized interface was built that allows end-users to pull current data from POISE in order to create a picture of long-term risks and trends.

Ease of reporting and data accuracy will be instant, visible advantages for NCTC, part of the research intelligence module of Estudias. Additionally, key performance indicators for higher education which are not available on NCTC’s ERP will also automatically calculated, such as cohorts and stop-outs, so that progress and problems among various types of student groups can be easily identified. These capabilities are part of the Estudias Executive Intelligence module. And with Estudias, NCTC will build in at-risk indicators, identifying students who are at risk of dropping out or failing, part of the enterprise software’s student engagement module.

As Dr. Lee Ann Nutt, vice president of instruction, explains, “There came a time when we wanted to be more data driven in our decision-making and we couldn’t get to that information very easily. We didn’t have access to the data we needed to support our instructional and programming initiatives. When I saw ZogoTech and how easy it was to use Estudias and the fact that it really drilled down to the exact kind of information that I wanted, I knew it was the right solution.”

Results: Data-Driven Decisions

As a result of Estudias and its integration with POISE, the college’s end users will be able to conduct ad hoc reporting or longitudinal tracking of student progress without ending up with data that are open to a lot of interpretation.

Says Dr. Nutt, “What I want as an institution is access to information and to make data-driven decisions. Our deans, directors and department chairs should have easy access to data in order to initiate research and to study their own programs. This creates a culture of a data-driven process.”

ZogoTech has a history of working with colleges and universities across the country and brings a special insight to the unique environment of two-year institutions.

“We are looking to serve institutions that not only want to fill their classrooms with new students, but who also want to build success with current students. NCTC’s commitment to making strategic data-driven decisions is a strong example of this philosophy,” says Michael Taft, president of ZogoTech.

About North Central Texas College

Established in 1924 under the leadership of Texas community college pioneer Randolph Lee Clark, North Central Texas College is the oldest continuously operating public two-year college in the state. From its roots as a small, rural “junior” college – an extension of the local public schools actually – NCTC has grown and matured into a comprehensive, full-service community college of truly regional scope, serving students from three major campuses located across its three-county service area.
