Lincoln Land College Selects ZogoTech™ to Provide Better Access to the Right Data

ZogoTech’s data warehousing and business intelligence solution supports data-driven decision making

July 10, 2009 (Dallas, Tx)—ZogoTech today announced that it has been selected by Springfield, IL-based Lincoln Land Community College (LLCC) to integrate its data warehousing and business intelligence software to provide LLCC with better, more manageable access to its current data. ZogoTech will integrate its research intelligence and executive intelligence software with LLCC’s current enterprise resource planning system, Datatel Colleague, so that the college can better manipulate its data and extract trends and patterns that were not available before. By accessing this information, Illinois’ geographically largest community college district will be able to make smarter, data-driven decisions pertaining to the growth and direction of the college and better manage its current resources.

“Our biggest challenge was not having meaningful data readily available when we needed it to make decisions,” says Esteban Cruz, chief information officer for LLCC. “For example, we didn’t have the consistent data to make enrollment decisions and determine what classroom sections to open. It has been very hard to identity such numbers. With this business intelligence, we are hoping to have those numbers more readily available.”

LLCC will use the Research Intelligence module of ZogoTech’s data warehousing solution to:

• Consolidates data from multiple sources into one consistent reporting base
• Automate data gathering and cleansing by notifying users of data discrepancies
• Provide an area to record intervention data – such as when a student is contacted by various faculty and how they are contacted
• Perform graphical analysis of data through drag-and-drop features
• Allow multiple users to access the data

In addition, LLCC will use ZogoTech’s Executive Intelligence module to create a data dashboard where college leaders will be able to view progress, monitor quantifiable key performance indicators and drill down to problem areas when needed.

“I think that’s going to be a very handy tool for all our executive team and they are very anxious to start using it,” says Cruz.

ZogoTech designed many pre-built metrics that are specific to higher education, such as cohorts, stop-outs and transfer outs, which reduces time needed to write customized reports. These modules are also pre-integrated with higher education resources like the National Student Clearinghouse.

“ZogoTech President Michael Taft is knowledgeable when it comes to the business of colleges and the role of business intelligence in our college,“ says Cruz. ”We want and need to have the ability to slice and dice our data, and find trends which right now are virtually impossible to find. Until now, it’s been a manual process with a lot of errors in the way we were doing it, and it was a very slow process. Plus, sometimes the request for analysis is driven by other departments and that is a very slow because they have to depend on IR to run reports or analysis before they can get any data back.“

Even before its complete integration with the college’s ERP system, LLCC was already able to use the research intelligence module for classroom utilization.

”It’s been a very seamless integration. The customer service is outstanding. They are very hands-on when it comes to providing information and answers.“ says Cruz.

With the support of ZogoTech’s research intelligence and executive intelligence modules, LLCC aims to provide access to information across multiple audiences within the college, consistent reporting of data and progress toward strategic goals.
